Dog Missing for 11 Years Reunites with Owner

April Livingston | February 18th, 2018

The story of a little dog who was reunited with her owners after being missing for eleven years begins back in 2006. That is when a woman named Iris Candelaria was not necessarily looking for a pet dog, but she found little Bebe anyway. It was love at first sight for the pair, with the little dog that looked like a stuffed animal and his owner. The Maltese-Yorkie mix was a big hit with Iris’ daughter as well, who immediately bonded with the little dog. The dog was a constant companion for Iris and her girls, following them around the house and taking any opportunity to jump in their laps for a snuggle. Even then, they wanted to keep Bebe the dog safe, so they brought him to the veterinarian to be microchipped to ensure he could be found if he should ever find his way out of their home.

Unfortunately, it was only a year and a half later that the unthinkable happened: Bebe escaped from the family’s fenced yard. Iris and her girls were devastated and spent days posting lost dog flyers and contacting all the local shelters in the hopes of finding their sweet dog. Sadly, he was never found. Iris and her daughters did not know where Bebe was, but they could only hope he was being cared for wherever he found himself. After years of grieving him, Iris eventually decided it was time to move on and find a new dog for her family. She adopted two pit bulls, named Sir Fatty and Mia, and a terrier mix named Croissant.

Then, one day, something amazing happened: someone contacted her on Facebook and asked if she had ever owned a Maltese-Yorkie mix. A little dog that looked like Bebe had found his way to a veterinarian’s office and her information came up when they scanned his microchip. He was in terrible shape and had spent a lot of time outdoors and had been neglected. But after a few days in the vet’s office, he was ready to be returned to Iris. The moment he was placed in her arms, he remembered her: it was good to be home again.
