Fourteen years: that’s how long Diesel has been alive. For each of those years, the blind dog has lived outside tethered to a heavy metal chain. He began as a puppy and has never known anything but life on a chain. Diesel had never been inside, had a warm place to sleep or even a dog bed to relax on; he lived outside. There was a time where it seemed like Diesel might be rescued, but he was just moved to a new location where he was also chained up. That is when a woman named Zoe Kharasch stepped in.
Zoe is the founder of an animal rescue group called Newman Nation: Senior Pets United and when she heard Diesel’s story, she immediately jumped into action. Poor Diesel had been through so much, including terrible weather conditions like heat, a tornado and snow storms. It was time to free him from those chains. Sadly, there were many doubters when Zoe decided to rescue Diesel. Many people felt there was no way he could live a life inside after being outdoors for 14 years. Still others suggested he be euthanized.
Thankfully Zoe did not listen and she picked up Diesel. The moment his chain was removed and they put him in the car, he came to life. His tail would not stop wagging at the sight of toys and human companionship. When he arrived at his foster home, he hopped right up onto the couch and fell fast asleep. It seemed he had been missing this experience his entire life. He was a little underweight when he was rescued, so the task was to help him put on weight. Surprisingly, the fact that he is blind has not slowed him down, either. Diesel loves to play (especially with tennis balls) and is doing quite well. He is now looking for a new home!
