Dog Keeps Getting Returned to Shelter, Until Now

April Livingston | December 25th, 2018

Lola the puppy had a pretty rough start to her life. Though she had only been alive for seven months, during that time she had been returned to the local animal shelter twice. But that all changed when a woman named Christina Antonucci arrived at the Second Chance Rescue facility. Christina actually first came across sweet Lola when she was looking at the website for a pet rescue group. That’s when she spotted Lola and fell in love. The puppy reminded her of the dogs she had as a child, which were English bull terrier mixes. So, she knew she needed to meet Lola in person. It was the sad look in Lola’s eyes that really hit Christina. She arranged to meet the dog in person and her foster mom brought her in.

As soon as Lola and Christina met, the dog sat on her feet and stared into her eyes. It was love a first sight, it seems. She learned more about Lola’s past too: her first owner was a teenager who eventually surrendered her to a shelter. Her second family had never owned a dog before and had no idea how much time and effort was required to care for a puppy. The more she learned about Lola, the more Christina knew she needed to adopt her. So, that’s just what she did.

The moment Lola arrived in her new home, she wouldn’t let her new mom out of her sight. She laid on top of Christina for hours, hugging and snuggling her. Though they had really just met, Lola wasn’t going to let go of her new mom. Though Lola is very sweet, she also has some bad habits after her past. She began digging all over the backyard and even attempting to break through a fence to get to the neighbor’s dog. She’s working on curbing the habit and now has a puppy brother named Lenny to play with anytime she wants.
