Pup, Pupper, Puppo, Doggo, Doge

All of these mean the same thing. Most people understand it means dog, but to some people there are fine lines between the different words. It’s best to see how those around you use them before making a quick assumption, but most commonly these words can be used interchangeably. You’ll also get a good laugh from dog owners from time to time. (Yes!! You’re in the group now!)

Smol Pup

Yes indeed, this means a small pup. Any time you see a super small pooch going for a big tennis ball at the park, lean over and nudge your fellow dog owner. It’s time to bring out the smol pup.

Dog Memes

These are becoming increasingly popular. You may hear dog owners everywhere quoting things they saw on the internet. Don’t be alarmed if you don’t know them all, but keep a few good ones in the back of your mind each time you head to the dog park. Better yet, save some memes to your phone so you can show out when the time is right.

Instapups

These are famous Instagram dogs that are well-known by the dog internet community. Dogs like Tuna the Chiweenie (@tunameltsmyheart) and Marnie the Shih Tzu (@marniethedog) are usually good ones to start with. Look them up and know what they look like and what they do. If you find any other worthy Instapups, bring them up in conversation with other dog owners. Not only will you win some brownie points, but now you can share more of those dog pictures you love!

If you’re not too interested in following tons of dogs on your Instagram feed, you can always create your own pup an Instagram and share with your friends. This is a good way for you to create a dog community surrounded by the people you want. Even if you don’t have a million followers, it’s a fun thing to do and a great way to keep memories of the adventures you and your pup share. Dog owners love those kinds of things, too.

Adopt Don’t Shop and Other Trends

Phrases like Adopt Don’t Shop have become increasingly popular over the years. Hashtags like this that involve supporting a dog cause have brought attention to various controversial topics in the dog world. Other trends such as dog subscription boxes, have become a fun way to bond with your pet and other owners who participate.

There are tons of things you should know about dog lingo and trends on the internet, but it’s okay if you don’t know all of them, too. Be sure to ask questions if you get confused. If there is something you are curious about, you can always search for it later and learn some new things you didn’t know!
