A tire is no place for a dog to live, but that is sadly where one little puppy found herself. Not only did she have a tire as a home, she also had mange all over her tiny body. Despite the terrible circumstance she found herself in, she still had a big smile on her face when rescuers finally came to help her.
She was first discovered by a group of workers in a warehouse located in Memphis, Tennessee. They had spotted the puppy near their job site for several days and began leaving her food. However, she would not let them get close enough to pick her up. So, they took a photo of her and posted it online to see if anyone could help her. That’s where a woman named Michelle Quina stepped in. She works for Streetdog Foundation and came right away to help the puppy. She was worried, because the puppy was not far away from a busy road and Michelle did not want her to wander off and possibly get hit by a car.
When Michelle arrived, the pup was curled up on the side of a road on a pink blanket and she ran back to her tire when she got close. However, Michelle was able to catch her once she got into the tire. She was rescued, finally, and also got a name: Panama, the street she was found on. She went straight to the vet, where it was determined that she has both worms and dermodex mange. Thankfully, the mange is not contagious, so Panama came home with Michelle as a foster so she can start her journey to recovery.
She is still very itchy and losing hair because of her mange, so she wears shirts to prevent her from scratching her skin as she heals. She is just fourteen weeks old and is already potty trained and knows a few tricks, too. She is receiving medicated baths for her mange and despite all she has been through, she still smiles for photos and will be ready for a new home soon!
