It’s safe to say that a little dog named Jessie is one lucky pup. Three years ago, the Soi Dog Foundation stepped in and rescued her from the streets of Thailand where she was struggling to survive. Then, she traveled to the United States so she could be adopted by a forever family. But sadly, Jessie has not found that special home and she has been waiting for three years now. She has spent those years in a very crowded and small shelter in Long Beach, New York. It has been so hard for a woman named Beth Zimmerman who used to volunteer for Posh Pets and Long Beach Animal Shelter. She said it is a heartbreaking situation and she wants nothing more than the help Jessie.
As far as to why she has not found a home, Tricia knows there are a few reasons. Due to her background, Jessie doesn’t show well in her kennel, which means she isn’t the happiest most excited dog when visitors approach. Though she has a tough exterior, there is a sweet, loving dog inside. It took her some time to trust the staff at the shelter, but now she loves to roll over for belly rubs. Likewise, it is common for black dogs to have issues being adopted as they don’t always present well in photographs or online.
The staff at the shelter is doing all they can to help Jessie, ensuring she goes out on walks each day and gets to spend time outdoors. When she is out and about, she wears a vest that says “Adopt Me!” on it. Jessie has online profiles and postings online for rescue groups and potential adopters. Jessie has some issues that require patience with a potential home, like someone who knows she will be cautious at first, but once someone shows her love she returns it ten fold.
