In August of 2016 a dog named Nitro was brought to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter in New York. He was found as a stray on the streets and was taken to the shelter by a good Samaritan. The staff and volunteers at the shelter quickly fell in love with the sweet dog, a pit bull. Everyone thought for certain he wouldn’t be in the shelter for long and someone who snatch him up to adopt him into their home. But sadly, that is not what happened. Sweet Nitro has been waiting for 981 days and counting, sitting in his shelter and waiting for his family to come along and take him home.
The staff says life in the shelter hasn’t been easy for Nitro. He’s five years old and he doesn’t really understand why he’s in the shelter despite being there for years. He does not like to be in his kennel and spends his time desperately trying to get love and attention from humans. He is loved by all the staff at the shelter, but it’s no replacement for a real family and a home. The amazing thing is that despite his sadness of being in the shelter, he never stops smiling.
Nitro gets so excited to see the staff at the shelter and spend time outside playing with toys. He loves to play and run around and his favorite thing is to be outdoors. Nitro is a very active dog who loves to run around, play fetch, and go for walks. He needs a family who is active and energetic too, who loves to be outdoors. He needs to be only pet in the home and would do best in a family that doesn’t have small children. Aside from that, he just needs a loving family who will love him.
