Dog Has Unique Way to Cool Off

April Livingston | August 4th, 2018

Texas is well known for many things, including its oppressive summer heat. In the city of Lake Dallas, Texas things have been especially toasty. This means humans and animals alike are trying to find ways to stay cool and keep hydrated. Sure, you could enjoy the air conditioning or even stand in front of an open refrigerator, but that’s all been done before. A dog named Baloo knew he wanted to stay cool and there was only one way to do it: by using his family’s backyard sprinkler. The dog, a five month old border collie, is named after the fun, clumsy “Jungle Book” character of the same name. The inspiration for Baloo’s name came because he’s so similar to the fun loving character—but that same personality can cause him to get into trouble from time to time.

Baloo loves the water, and absolutely seeks it out every chance he gets. But he recently took his water obsession to an entirely new level. Cara Wohr, Baloo’s mom, was reading quietly in her bedroom recently. She suddenly heard an odd noise that just sounded like someone banging around the house. This was not a huge red flag to Cara, who has a total of five dogs who make their fair share of noise. Then, Baloo kept barking and wouldn’t stop. So, she went out into the family room to see what the fuss was all about, and she couldn’t believe her eyes. Baloo the troublemaker had drug the hose, with a sprinkler attached to the end, inside of the house through the doggy door.

Baloo was having the time of his life, jumping and playing inside with the sprinkler, which was soaking the inside of Cara’s home in the process. She snapped a quick photo with her phone, then quickly threw the sprinkler back outside. It took plenty of towels and fans to dry up the area in a few hours. Sweet Baloo might no longer drag the sprinkler inside, but his love affair with the device is still alive and well, a great way to beat the heat this summer!
