The Cape May Police Department in New Jersey is tough on crime. So, when the precinct received a call about a delinquency in progress, they jumped into action. As it turns out, the said crime was committed by a fluffy, four legged “criminal.” A little pug somehow managed to escape from her owner’s yard and was running around the neighborhood, free as a bird. However, the pug was not much of a criminal mastermind as it turns out. An officer from the Cape May Police Department answered the call and headed to the area. He was able to find the dog, put her in his car, and return her to the Police Station.
While she was there, the officer and the Cape May Police Chief, Anthony Marino, had a hilarious idea. They took the dog’s mugshot—or “pugshot” as they began to call it. Her life of crime, it seems, had led her straight to the jail’s doors. So, the mugshot was taken not to punish her, but to help find her owners in a humorous way. Authorities had no idea who her owner was, and they hoped the funny “pugshot” would go viral and lead them to the dog’s owner.
They even gave her a cell so she could relax and think about her “crimes.” Officers posted the mugshot of the dog on Facebook with the following caption: “This is what happens when you run away from home.” And soon the post went viral—both in the area and across the country. But best of all, it meant someone who knew the dog’s owner saw the post and were able to let them know where there dog was. Soon, the dog and her owner were finally reunited and everyone was able to share a few laughs along the way. The dog, who is named Bean, is now resting at home with her owners and hopefully rethinking her “life of crime.”
