A family was evicted from their apartment and needed to find a new place to live. After they left, however, the building’s property manager thought they heard cries coming from the vacant apartment. So, the manager went in to see what was going on and found someone inside: a tiny dog. The dog was tied to a pipe underneath a sink and was injured and needed help as soon as possible. It seems the family left the apartment but decided to leave their dog behind. She was tied to a pipe under the sink and left with just a bowl filled with Raisin Bran cereal.
The dog, who was later named Autumn, had a terrible neck injury from being tied so tightly to the pipe. She was in the apartment for about a week alone until someone found her—and she was in a lot of pain from the terrible injury to her neck. The property manager knew she needed help, so he posted about the dog on Facebook and that’s where Kate’s Rescue for Animals stepped in to assist.
Volunteers came to get Autumn and then took her straight to the Monte Vista Small Animal Hospital where the staff was waiting to help. They began by removing her collar and examined her neck, deciding she needed immediate surgery on her neck in order save the little dog’s life. It is believed that the dog’s neck wound was not from that one week she was tied to a pipe; she had been tied up much longer than that. Autumn was also underweight and dehydrated and needed plenty of TLC to heal and get back to a healthy place.
After surgery, staff at the animal hospital said it was clear she began to feel better just a few hours later. Autumn still needs some time to heal but soon she will be in search of her forever home!
