A little dog named Timberly knew life in one way: he lived outside and was rarely, if ever, given a chance to come indoors. He lived with his owner in Chicago and had braved many cold seasons outdoors. However, his owner became very ill and she thought keeping the dog outside would help her not become sicker. The Anti-Cruelty was called and rescuers were able to convince the woman to give him to them so he could be given a better home.
Timberly arrived at a shelter in Chicago and the first thing rescuers noticed was his very matted fur. His body was completely covered and weighed down by the extra fur that was matted and tangled. It seemed like it had been many years since he was properly groomed. His condition was so terrible that it was very difficult for him to move and he was very scared of humans. He was only able to see out of one of his eyes and his movements were very restricted because of the fur. Rescuers knew they needed to quickly remove the fur from his body to help him.
A professional groomer was called in due to the severity of his matted fur. It took the groomer and volunteers several hours to shave Timberly and after they were finished they had removed three pounds of extra, matted fur from his little body. The moment they were finished it was like he was a new dog! His body relaxed, he began to wag his tail and even roll over to ask for belly rubs. Timberly has a new lease on life and now he is ready for his new life, hopefully with a family who understands that he has been through so much and needs help getting used to the world and all the new people and dogs in it.
