When the staff at the Villalobos Rescue Center (VRC) arrived at work one morning, they came upon a truly heartbreaking sight. There was a dog tied to the fence outside the facility, located in New Orleans. It was a young pit bull and the poor dog was terrified and cowered in fear as he saw them approach. He had been tied to the fence by his leash and he had obviously tried to escape but instead tangled himself in the leash. The leash was wrapped around his leg and was cutting off circulation. The staff knew he needed help but the terrified dog was not going to make it easy to help him.
The dog would not let the staff get near him and began to get aggressive, so they backed off but they were not going to give up on him. They noticed a plastic shopping bag nearby that had all his possessions inside—and it also had a very sad note. Here’s what the note said:
“Meet Rock. I can’t keep him no more due to personal problems with my family. He has been isolated in my room his whole life as my parents didn’t want him out of the room and on top of that, the landlord didn’t want dogs here. He’s 1 year and 4 months and never had human interaction besides my family so please build his human interaction.”
“Once you get to know him, he’s the sweetest dog you’ll know. He is pet-friendly but can be nervous around people. Please take your time with [him] and give him a better home. I will always donate as much as I can for the wishlist … he is up-to-date with his shots.”
The facility was overloaded with dogs, so they took to social media to share photos of Rock the dog. That’s when his former owner’s brother stepped forward to help. He had moved out of the home and was living on his own and had no idea what happened—so he came to rescue the dog and take him in. Rock was so excited to see him, and the staff is so happy he’s now in a happy, safe home.
