Dog Discovered in Barn Gets Haircut, Loses 35 Pounds of Fur from his Body

Change your haircut, change your life. It’s amazing how impactful one haircut can be on a person’s life, but in this case it was a dog whose life was forever changed by a pair of clippers.

In an amazing turn of events, a sweet dog named Lazarus was recently discovered living in a barn in a rural area of the United States. For six years (or even perhaps longer, no one can be sure) he resided in a barn amongst farm animals and unfortunately also large piles of feces. The pup, thought to be a Great Pyrenees breed, was owned by an terminally ill and elderly couple and unfortunately was neglected for many years.

When discovered, rescuers could hardly believe their eyes: the dog was completely covered and weighed down by many pounds of matted hair. Lazarus’ hair was so matted it made it difficult for him to walk or move and it was nearly obstructing his face and vision as well. It was time to take action. The group of volunteers did the one thing they could to help Lazarus: they rescued him from the barn and gave him a much needed doggy makeover.

A groomer was brought in for the occasion to ensure the haircut was done properly in order to give the dog the relief it so desperately needed from all that hair. The team quickly got to work, carefully using scissors and clippers to remove the hair from Lazarus the dog’s body. In total, the groomer removed 35 pounds of fur from the dog’s body.

Lazarus the pooch is now recovering at a dog rescue facility while he recuperates from his harrowing ordeal. He will remain in such a rescue facility until he can be rehabilitated and become accustomed to human affection after so many years of living in a barn.

Don’t you just love a dog story with a happy ending? We’re rooting for you Lazarus!
