Dog Chooses Family in the Best Way

April Livingston | September 25th, 2018

When a woman named Beatriz Baranski Kaniak and her husband moved into their new home in Chile, their four rescue dogs moved in too. They moved in January and had only been in the home a few days when the most amazing thing happened. The family’s front gate was left open most of the day because the home had workers coming and going to do a variety of projects. One day, they happened to glance outside a window and noticed something odd: there was an animal lying in the center of the driveway. Not just any animal: it was a little puppy and it wasn’t one of their four dogs. They did not recognize the dog and had never seen it before.

Being dog lovers, they quickly headed outside to get a closer look at the little pup. The dog, who was eventually named Cookie, was completely exhausted and malnourished. Not only was she in bad shape, but she had picked just the right spot to lie down. Beatriz said the pup seemed so fragile and in desperate need of help, so there was no question she and her husband were going to help young Cookie. She was very apprehensive and scared of people at first, but soon realized she was safe and could trust people. As for her dog siblings, she took to them right away. Because Cookie was in such rough shape, Beatriz took her to a veterinarian for an exam. It was discovered that she was underweight and had a terrible skin condition.

They put Cookie on medication and did everything they could to make her comfortable. Cookie made a complete transformation from that frightened dog in the driveway to a confident, loving companion to both Beatriz and her husband and each of her doggy siblings, too.
