A dog named Totopo had been through an unspeakable ordeal. No one knows exactly what happened, but one thing was certain: he was in desperate need of help. The dog was first discovered in October by a woman. She saw the dog, a 3-year-old pit bull mix, was not under shelter and had no food or water. He was chained to a wall and the chain was so short he couldn’t even lay down. So, he would rest his head against the wall to sleep or rest. Worse yet, he had mange and ringworm and his skin had been burnt several times. His ears had been cropped, but it seemed it was done by someone who did not know what they were doing and they had used scissors or a knife. Someone had also shaved down his canine teeth.
The woman who found Totopo decided to knock on the door of the home where the dog was living. The family living inside said the dog was chained outside as punishment for chasing a chicken. Eventually, the family agreed to surrender the dog and the woman took Totopo to Matteo Saucedo, who runs the Riviera Rescue AC group. Tiffany Lacey, who runs Animal Haven in New York in the United States saw photos of Totopo and she had him and two other paralyzed dogs flown to the US so they could heal and find new homes.
Though Totopo has not grown his fur back just yet, he is a sweet and loving dog despite all he’s gone through in his short life. The dog has clearly been neglected and abused by people, but just loves to be around both humans and dogs. Though it will be some time until he’s ready for his forever home, Totopo already has quite a few applications for adoption and they will be making a decision on his new home soon. His future is very bright, despite his terrible past.
