For a dog that lives in Italy, there is nothing better than a good, old fashioned game of fetch. So much so, that the Border collie mix is always at the ready, with a toy in his mouth in case a friendly stranger should happen upon him and be so kind as to throw the toy for him. A woman named Caterina Dellabona learned all this information recently when walking by the dog’s home recently. It was the sign hanging on the gate on the outside of the home that caught her eye initially. It was written in Italian and read, “Please do not throw the toy in the cacti (the dog will hurt itself). Throw either left or right.”
At first, she was not sure to make of the sign and even found it to be a bit confusing. That is, until the dog who lived there came trotting over to the gate. He had a toy in his mouth and made it clear that he was more than ready to play. With his tail wagging back and forth, the dog stuck his head and the toy through the bars of the gate toward her. The gate allowed room for the dog’s head to stick out, but not the rest of his body. She realized he was asking her to the throw the toy for him, which apparently happens quite often. The family knew this was happening, so they placed a sign on the gate to ensure the dog would not be injured while running for his toy.
So, Caterina took the toy from the dog’s mouth and threw it away from the cacti. The dog was overcome with excitement, running to grab the toy and then return it for another round of fetch. She played with him for over ten minutes before going on her way. But she passes that way often and is sure to stop for a few rounds of fetch with her new furry friend!
