A sweet dog named Baxter and his mom, Kaiah found themselves in the Windham Animal Control facility in Connecticut. The pair arrived there when their owner went to jail and no one was able to care for the dogs. They are loving, sweet dog that were nothing but wonderful from the moment they arrived at the shelter. They are a bonded pair, however, and need a home together. But sadly, they have now been in the facility for two years with no hope of finding themselves in a forever home. Kaiah is ten years old and Baxter is eight, making them both “senior” dogs. While they may be a bit older, that just means they have outgrown the dreaded puppy stage.
However, the sweet pair of pit bulls have plenty of playful, goofy energy and lots of love to give to that someone special who will adopt them both. Most of the time, they enjoy curling up together and sleeping, but will play with tennis balls. They both take treats very gently and Kaiah is particularly gentle. Baxter is very attached to his mother Kaiah, so they must be adopted together. He is lost without her, so they shelter staff breaks their rule of housing dogs separately so they can be by one another’s side.
When they aren’t sleeping, they love exploring outside and love to run. Both need some work with walking on a leash, and it’s important that whoever adopts them has a fenced yard so they have room to play and run around. Both dogs are great with kids and the shelter would like someone who is an experienced dog owner who can work with both dogs to get them acclimated to living in a home again. After all this time in a shelter, they need some special care and patience. For the right person, they will be so loving and wonderful!
