Dog Abandoned at Store with Note on Collar

April Livingston | January 9th, 2018

While it may be hard to believe or accept, there are hundreds of dogs that are abandoned by their owners every year. Through no fault of their own, these pets are left on their own or given to a shelter because they are no longer wanted. This however is cruelty to animals and should not be tolerated in any circumstance. A sad abandonment situation recently took place in New Mexico and the police are working to identify the man who abandoned his dog at a Dunkin’ Donuts with a note on her collar recently.

In Santa Fe, New Mexico the local animal services was called to a Dunkin’ Donuts when people observed a man dumping his dog in the parking lot. The man’s face and license plate, along with the terrible act, were all caught on survelience video. After dumping the dog, he headed inside the store to order coffee. The frightened dog tried to follow the man inside and then back to his car, but he drove off without her. The dog had a note attached to her collar that read, “I’m Free. I’m having babies.”

Santa Fe Police have not had luck locating the man who left the dog yet, but there is good news. The dog is now being cared for by the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society and is doing very well there. The staff say the dog is very sweet and social and is very much in love with people. They aren’t sure if the dog is actually pregnant or not at this point. It is a sad and unfortunate story of a dog that was simply dumped by its owner, but shelter staff are hopeful the dog will have a happy ending to her story by being adopted into a safe and loving home very soon.
