Eric Maus is a dog walker who lives in the Brooklyn area of New York. He was on his typical walk with two dogs named Lily and Gouda, taking a long hike through Prospect Park. The trio turned a corner and came across an unusual sight: there was a very large pit bull lying on the ground and tied to a nearby tree. Eric looked around for the dog’s owner, but there was not a single person in sight. So, he and the two dogs approached the pit bull and he didn’t react: he was very gentle and sweet. As he got closer, Eric realized someone had written a note and attached it to a branch. The note said the dog’s name was Mamas and it also said:
“Take me home. I’m a great dog. Don’t let my size scare you. I’m sweet.”

Eric realized that someone had purposefully left Mamas in the park and he needed to do something for her. He posted her photo to a local Facebook group and soon the help started to pour in for her. A volunteer agreed to pick up Mamas and bring her to the Sean Casey Animal Rescue who had a kennel for her. Eric was able to get Mams to stand, but her weight and a possible bladder infection meant she was very slow moving.

Once she knew she was safe, Mamas relaxed and got comfortable with her rescuers. She was taken to a nearby veterinarian for a health screening and may need antibiotics for her infection. Once she gets the all clear and passes a stray hold, she will be available for adoption into a loving home. Though no one knows exactly what her past was like, it seems that her future is now very bright thanks to Eric.
