Jasey Jentsch’s dad and his dog had a very wonderful twelve years together. It was a very strong bond between the man and his beloved dog, a Boston terrier. As a puppy, the dog was surrendered to the local shelter by its owner. Jasey’s dad was hesitant to bring a new pet into the home and adopt a dog from the shelter, but that all changed when he met Bruce. The man and his dog became the very best of friends quickly and they spent a lot of time together. Their favorite activity was to sit on the recliner and watch television together every Saturday morning. But as time went on, Bruce began to slow down noticeably.
The once energetic and playful dog became sick and even lost his sight completely about two years ago. Despite his illness, he never left his dad’s side and the pair even became more bonded. But unfortunately for all of us who love dogs, they do not live forever. So, after slowly getting sicker Bruce eventually passed away peacefully at home. The loss was difficult for the entire family, but no one took it harder than Jasey’s dad. They wanted to do something to make him feel better about losing his best friend, so the man’s wife had a brilliant idea.
She found a company that creates custom pillows that feature images of a pet. So, she had a pillow made of Bruce and they surprised him with the gift. He cried when he saw the pillow and said it made him feel so happy to hold his best friend in his arms again. While no pillow is a replacement for sweet Bruce, it’s a great way to keep his memory alive. Jasey says that her dad’s love for Bruce lives on in their home and the dog is not forgotten—especially now that he has a plush reminder of his best friend.
