Do you love to read? Perhaps there is nothing better for you than curling up in your favorite chair and cracking open a good book to read. Or, if you are someone who is constantly on the go, you much prefer to listen to audiobooks in the car or while outside for a run or walk. Regardless of how you prefer to read, technology has made it easier than ever access literature anywhere and everywhere. In the spirit of this technology, Audible, an audiobook company owned by Amazon, has introduced an innovative new service: they now offer audiobooks for dogs.
These books, narrated by professionals or even the author themselves, can offer comfort to dogs while they are home alone, claims the company. It is very common for pets, particularly dogs, to experience serious separation anxiety when their owners leave the house. This can lead to destructive or negative results when dogs try to exercise out their feelings. According to Audible and dog expert Cesar Millan, there is a way to keep fido happy when you leave the house.
According to a 2015 study performed at Hartpury College in the United Kingdom, listening to audiobooks versus simply listening to music has a calming, soothing effect on animals when they are alone. When you leave the house, there is certainly nothing better than knowing your dog is relaxed and not experiencing stress at home while you are away. It’s also best to give your dog regular, daily exercise to help them reach a calm state.
The company has thousands of audiobook titles currently available for both humans and dogs, but reports that it will release more titles geared specifically toward dogs in the near future. What do you think about playing audiobooks for your dog? Do you think it’s a good idea? Do you turn on the television or radio for your dog while you’re away from home to keep them calm?
