As a dog owner, there is truly nothing more frightening than losing your beloved K9 companion. It is particularly upsetting when they become lost and you are unsure of their location. For a man in Downtown Jersey City, this unfortunate situation became a reality. The man, Chris Schlack, 31, took his dog for a walk one day. His dog is a pit bull mix named Torque and while going for their morning walk, there was an unfortunate series of events. A cyclist was riding down the street the wrong way and accidentally crashed into the man and his dog.
When Schlack fell to the ground during the accident, his dog took off down the street. You see, Torque is not only a skittish dog but he is also fearful of most humans. A rescue dog adopted by Schlack ten years ago, he had a rough past that led him to be afraid of human beings. When Torque took off running, no one in the area could catch him and he was unfortunately quite lost. So, Schlack and his family got to work on finding him, making and posting flyers around the neighborhood and canvassing the area for anyone who might have seen the pooch.
There were many sightings of Torque the dog in the area, but the people who spotted him were unable to grab his leash as he ran by them. But thanks to a wonderful twist of fate, Torque wasn’t lost for too long. A man and his dog were walking in Liberty State Park and when the dog when off leash, he made an incredible discovery: a dehydrated and emaciated Torque lying in a secluded area. The man was able to grab his leash and call the local Humane Society, who then contacted Schlack with the good news: Torque was found. The dog is now recovering at home from his ordeal and is expected to be back to health in no time.
