Chihuahua Has Record-Breaking Puppies

April Livingston | March 30th, 2018

A Chihuahua named LOL was in the very advanced stages of her pregnancy when she was rescued. In fact, it was clear that she was ready to give birth any minute to a litter of puppies. What happened next is something that shocked just about everyone—perhaps even LOL herself. The dog, who was just 18 months old herself, was surrendered by her owner to the Unleashed Pet Rescue & Adoption group located in Kansas. Because she was so close to giving birth, it was important to place her in a foster home as soon as possible. Rescuers wanted to be sure she had a calm, safe environment to give birth to her puppies.

Just a short five days after being rescued, LOL gave birth. Her foster family was there when LOL went into labor to ensure she safely gave birth to each of her puppies. One by one the puppies came out and the foster family stayed in close touch with Rebecca Taylor from Unleashed Pet Rescue. LOL’s foster mom thought the dog was finished after she gave birth to her eighth puppy, but she was just getting started. Soon, puppy number nine came. Then, puppy number ten. The next morning, it became clear LOL had been busy: there were a total of eleven puppies!

It was a shock to everyone, from her foster mom to the rescue group. The puppies were all in perfect condition and doing well. LOL is being a good mom to all eleven of her little puppies. While there is no doubt that LOL’s puppies are adorable, it seems they might also be record holders. As luck would have it, the largest litter of Chihuahua puppies on record is ten puppies and it seems LOL made herself famous. The rescue group is in contact with the Guinness World Records group to cement her place in the records book, which is still pending.

In the meantime, LOL is taking care of her puppies so they can someday find a home of their own.
