Medicine and technology have really joined forces as of late to bring some true miracles into the lives of those who have experienced trauma in their lives. Many veterans of war who lost limbs now have prosthetic limbs that allow them to return to some sense of normalcy in their daily lives. For others who were born without limbs, this is also an incredible new medical breakthrough that has positively impacted their lives. However medicine and technology continues to evolve and now dogs are benefitting from this amazing advancement in the world with some truly incredible results.
One such example of this miracle is a very sweet seven year old German Shephered dog whose name is Star. She now has some serious pep in her step thanks to an amazing advancement in medicine that has really taken off in the last ten years or so. Star the dog was actually born without one of her full rear hind legs and ever since then she has experienced serious difficulty in trying to both move and walk around with ease. That is, until a very special day recently at a veterinary facility. Star the dog was fitted with an amazing new prosthetic leg that was customized to fit her perfectly. After trying it on and going through the process of learning to walk again, Star is on track to return to daily walks in time at all.
This amazing breakthrough is all thanks to the advancement of 3D printing capabilities. In the past, an injury like Stars or even a birth defect would mean that a dog would need an amputation on their leg. Star still has a small portion of her leg, so the new prosthetic attaches right to the leg she already has, making it easier for her to have a great quality of life. This not only means she has a better quality of life but it makes her really happy, too.
