Though he is only seven years old, a boy named Travis Ulman knows just how to sell an idea to his parents. Travis, who lives in San Antonio, Texas, recently tried his negotiation skills and they paid off in a very big way. You see, Travis and his family recently moved to a new house with a huge backyard and the little boy decided it was way too big for their black Labrador Rosie. She was playing in the yard by herself, but Travis knew she really needed a companion. So, his plan was set into motion. He kept telling his parents how bored Rosie seemed and they told him maybe she could get a furry sibling someday.
However, “some day” turned into a day much sooner as Travis and his dad began to look at the website of their local animal shelter. That is when they came across Lucy, a Great Dane with black and brown spots. One look and her photo and Travis fell completely in love with the dog. Then, it was time to move into the next phase of young Travis’ plan: he demanded to be taken to the local shelter. He claimed he just wanted to take a look at the smaller dogs, like pugs or even a Chihuahua.
However, when the family arrived at The City of San Marcos Animal Shelter, his third phase began. Travis walked by all of the little dogs and headed straight for his ultimate goal: Lucy the giant Great Dane. He looked at his mom and said, “Happy Mother’s Day. You’re buying me this dog because I love him.” That feeling is certainly mutual: Travis and Lucy bonded almost immediately in the shelter and the family knew they couldn’t leave without her. So, she is now a member of their family and whether she is napping on the couch, playing with Travis, or with her sister Rosie she is one happy dog!
