Things were not going so well for a dog named Zelda recently. The pooch, a pit bull, found herself all alone in a remote canyon in California. You see, someone abandoned Zelda up in the mountains of the state and she was left to roam the area for nearly two weeks in the heat and dust of the area. That is, until a passerby discovered the pit bull wandering by herself and called for some much needed help. That help arrived quickly from the Los Angeles, California based rescue, Hope for Paws. They received a call about Zelda and headed immediately up into the canyon to try to locate the dog.
The group was worried, as Zelda had been in the canyon for several weeks alone and there were serious dangers like extreme heat, cars, and coyotes in the area. Rescuers knew they needed to act fast in order to save the dog’s life. They were able to locate her, lying next to the road in a small patch of shade as she tried to get away from the heat. That was only the beginning, as Zelda had been on her own for so long that she was terrified of her rescuers when they approached. However, they knew just what to do: Zelda was very hungry and they brought food for her. Zelda was scared, so they needed to be patient and move slowly so she wouldn’t run away.
The team divided up, with one rescuer feeding treats to Zelda while another crept up behind her to put a leash around her neck. She was still nervous, but she quickly relaxed and happily accepted love and affection from her rescuers. Hope for Paws took Zelda the dog to the veterinarian, where it was determined that she was a bit on the thin side, but otherwise quite healthy. She is currently living in a foster home and waiting on someone to give her a forever home.
