5 Things All Dog Owners Have Said After Getting a Dog

You were probably running around the house, tearing your hair out when you first got your dog. They were eating anything and everything, chewing on all of your shoes, and slobbering all over your brand-new couch. It was a rough start. But once you got the hang of hanging with your dog, you realized that there was nothing better than spending all day with him. Your friends without dogs have realized you’re now officially a dog person, but you’ve also picked up some phrases, sayings, and ideals along the way that they can’t quite get their minds wrapped around.

“I’m never having kids.”

One of the most common things that comes out of your mouth when sitting around your freshly married friends and their new babies is something like this. Clearly, your dog is all you need. Why would you need kids when you can just get more dogs?

“I’d better get home. It’s getting late.”

This is your most frequently used line to get out of doing more things with your friends. It’s Friday, but your dog is alone and needs some time to pawty, too. And by pawty, we mean lay on top of you while you watch Netflix shows and movies about more dogs. As dog owners, we understand.

 “Can I bring my dog?”

Yep, your dog is your best friend. You don’t leave the house without him unless it is completely necessary. You pick restaurants and stores based on their dog policies and rules. Your friends are dog tired of going to the same place, but they know you will never show up without your pup.

“Sorry I’m late. The dog just wouldn’t poop.”

Your alarm clock didn’t ring and just as you grab your things to rush out the door, you realize you forgot to let the dog out. Fido is ready to go, but knows that this will be his last chance to explore the outdoors before lunch. Next thing you know, your pooch is wandering all over the yard trying to find the best smells and not trying in the slightest to do his business. Sorry Boss, but the dog comes first.

Treat yo self [and your pup].”

It’s true, your new mantra is officially treat yourself to everything. Your pup loves treats, toys, and everything in between. It’s time to treat your pup and yourself to a few things. From ice cream (for the both of you) and every kind of shredable toy in sight, you are now officially broke and still buying. Every time your friends come over, there are shredded toys, ropes, and stuffing all over the place. At the end of the day though, it was completely worth it as you and your dog sit on the couch in absolute bliss of the mess you’ve made.

It’s a different kind of lifestyle, but you’re proud to be a part of it. Dogs make you crazy, but you love them all the same. Maybe some of your ideas about life will change eventually, but right now your dog is your world and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
